Sweatcoin review: Does Sweatcoin really work?

You might have heard of Sweatcoin among the trend of money making apps that pay you to walk. But is Sweatcoin legit or a scam?

We’ve been using the Sweatcoin app for quite a few months now to see what all the fuss was about, so here’s an up to date Sweatcoin review discussing how it works, how to use it and if it’s actually worth it.

Spoiler: you won’t get rich from walking using Sweatcoin, but you can earn yourself some free rewards and it’s great for encouraging a more active lifestyle.

What is Sweatcoin?

Sweatcoin is a fast growing health app that rewards you in its own currency (Sweatcoins) for walking. You can then use the Sweatcoins you’ve earned to buy rewards from the Sweatcoin Marketplace.

Sweatcoin was created with the aim to help people get motivated to move more.

Where is Sweatcoin available?

Sweatcoin is available in many countries globally, including the US, UK, UAE, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Philippines, Israel and much of Europe.

How does Sweatcoin work?

Sweatcoin works by using the inbuilt features of your smartphone such as the accelerometer and GPS to track your steps using its algorithm. Once verified, your steps then get converted into Sweatcoins.

Sweatcoin conversion

1000 steps = 1 Sweatcoin

Generally, approximately 1000 steps convert to 1 Sweatcoin, however Sweatcoin do take a 5% commission, so you’ll actually end up with 0.95 Sweatcoins per 1000 steps taken. 10,000 steps a day would earn you 9.5 Sweatcoins.

How to use Sweatcoin

To use Sweatcoin, all you need to do is download and install the app. The Sweatcoin app is available for both Android and iPhone devices.

Once you’ve installed the app, just set up your profile and leave it on in the background and it will automatically work to count your steps as you go about your day.

Does Sweatcoin count indoor steps?

Yes, Sweatcoin now counts indoor steps too. Whilst in the past you could only earn Sweatcoin when walking outside, if you have an Android device or iPhone 7 or newer your indoor steps will also be counted.

How to earn Sweatcoins

There are 3 main ways to earn Sweatcoins. The first is simply by walking.

Once you’ve downloaded the app and created an account you’ll start earning Sweatcoin by walking. Sweatcoin’s algorithm will automatically count your steps and convert them into Sweatcoins.

How many Sweatcoins can you earn?

How many Sweatcoins you can earn from walking depends on which membership level you have and how much walking you do.

Sweatcoin Membership Levels

There are 5 membership levels available on Sweatcoin. By default new users are on the ‘Mover’ membership level and can earn up to 5 Sweatcoins a day. If you upgrade levels you pay a monthly subscription, charged from your Sweatcoin balance (except Troublemaker) which allows you to earn more daily Sweatcoins.

SWEATCOIN MEMBERSHIP LEVELS:

  1. Mover:  This level is free and you can earn up to 150 Sweatcoins per month.
  2. Shaker: Costs 4.47 Sweatcoins monthly and you can earn up to 300 Sweatcoins per month
  3. Quaker: Costs 20 Sweatcoins monthly, and you can earn up to 450 Sweatcoins per month.
  4. Breaker: Costs 30 Sweatcoins monthly and you can earn up to 600 Sweatcoins per month.
  5. Troublemaker (premium): Costs $0.99 a month (actual cash) and allows you to earn Sweatcoins twice as fast and up to 1500 per month.

You can change your membership level at any time within the settings on your profile page.

Daily Bonus Ads

Sweatcoin Daily Bonus

The second way to earn Sweatcoins is by watching ads.

Each day you can choose to earn more Sweatcoins by watching up to 3 short (30 sec) ads. You can watch the first ad straight away but the following 2 bonus ads are unlocked by walking 500 and 1000 steps respectively.

How much you’ll earn for each ad watch is random, but you can earn anything between 0.1 and 1000 Sweatcoins per ad.

Sweatcoin Referrals

The third possible way to earn Sweatcoins is by inviting friends. For every friend you invite that joins with your unique referral link you will earn 5 Sweatcoins. You can find your personal referral link in your app by clicking on Invite a Friend.

Additional features: How to earn Sweatcoin faster

Sweatcoin Daily Boost

Something that can help you earn Sweatcoin faster is the 2x boost feature.

Every day you have the opportunity to use the 2x Boost Bonus. This means that for 20 minutes you can earn double Sweatcoins for your steps.

Just click the 2x boost button when you want your 20 minutes to start each day. To make the most of this it’s recommended to start just before a run or fast walk.

Sweatcoin Quiz

Another feature on Sweatcoin is the quiz, where you can take a quiz for a chance to win a prize – for example as I write this today’s prize is a $100 Nike gift card. The winner is drawn at random after the quiz closes.

Sweatcoin offers – how do you spend Sweatcoins?

You can spend your Sweatcoins in the Sweatcoin marketplace. This is where you can buy goods and services from the partnering brands.

Sweatcoin Offers

Marathon offers

Marathon offers are long term offers to work towards. These would take a long time to save up for and are meant to motivate users to walk daily to accrue more Sweatcoins over a long period. Marathon offers include things like TVs, $1000 cash, Go Pros etc. As of late 2020 it looks like marathon offers are being phased out.

Bucket List

Bucket list offers are similarly to Marathon offers as they’re long term and high value, but these include experiences, such as a trip to Disney.

Sweatcoin Auctions

Sweatcoin Auctions are a new feature that seem to gradually replacing Marathon offers on Sweatcoin. There are a variety of different products up for auction at different time, such as an Xbox, Go Pro and high value gift cards.

How do Sweatcoin auctions work?

To take part in an auction Sweatcoin users need to go to the auction section of the app and click on the image for the product they’d like to win. From there you can see more details for the product, the time left on the auction and the current highest bid.

To join the auction you simply click the Raise Bid button and enter your bug. At the end of the auction the highest bidder will win, and after completing a form the prize will be fulfilled within 30 days.

The sweatcoin for good section contains a number of charities where you can join crowdfunding to donate your Sweatcoins towards the work of each charity. When you donate your Sweatcoins, Sweatcoin pledge to donate more.

How Much is a Sweatcoin Worth?

Sweatcoin has no official monetary value. However if you look at the Marathon cash reward for $1000 in exchange for 20,000 Sweatcoins, it would work out as about $0.05 per Sweatcoin.

Does Sweatcoin give you real money?

No. Although occasionally you are able to redeem your Sweatcoins in exchange for a gift card or PayPal cash, generally the rewards that are available for lower amounts are products or services and you cannot cash out your Sweatcoin to your bank account.

The value of the SWEAT token will be determined by supply and demand on the market.

Can I Redeem Sweatcoins for Cash or Money into PayPal?

Right now, it’s not possible to cash out Sweatcoins from walking via bank transfer or to PayPal. However, the long term aim is for Sweatcoin to become its own currency that will be listed on the exchanges.

For the moment you can exchange your currency for rewards in Sweatcoin Marketplace – Amazon or Paypal rewards are occasionally featured, particularly if you invite a lot of friends.

Can I sell Sweatcoin?

Whilst there are sites where you can buy and sell Sweatcoin for PayPal cash, these are not necessarily endorsed and you are at risk of losing your Sweatcoins.

Transferring Sweatcoin between accounts

Any registered user of Sweatcoin can send or receive Sweatcoins between accounts. To transfer to a friend, go to your followers page, find the username of the person you want to send Sweatcoin to, fill in the amount and hit send.
