Making Money Teaching English With VIP Kid – Interview With Ashton

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog
Hello, my Name is Ashton and I am a wife, mom, teacher and author. My blog is Called Savor the Mom Life. It’s all mom tips and kiddo based learning and fun. I have been working on the blog for little over a year and just started working with VIP Kid.
What’s your money maker and what does it involve?
My “Money Maker” is VIP Kid. I teach English as a Second Language to children in China. The classes are all online. It is one-on-one teaching with Kids that range from about 3-12.
The company supplies a curriculum of PowerPoints so prep is at a minimum. All the teachers are English Speaking independent contractors from America or Canada. The lessons each last 25 minutes and are created to immerse the children into the language with fun, creativity and interaction.
What are the job requirements?
- Bachelor’s Degree (Doesn’t matter in what but would help if it’s related to teaching or children)
- Stable internet connection.
- At least one year of mentor or teaching experience (coaching, daycare, babysitting, homeschooling, etc.)
- Computer, webcam, headset with a microphone and some props. (Don’t worry the props are easy to come by and create. You don’t need the props and headset when you first apply).
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
How long have you been doing it & why did you start?
I started in February 2019. So, I have only been working with them for about 3 months. I started because I really needed a way to help my husband with the family financial burden. I have 2 kids- age 6 and 3. The 3-year-old is still home with me and even when she does go to school like her brother, I still like the idea of working from home.
Having a flexible schedule, I mostly choose is one of the biggest reasons I chose VIP Kid. I have a friend that has been super successful with VIP Kid. She referred me. The hours I teach are mostly when my children are asleep! Beijing- where VIP Kid is based is about 12-hour time difference from here in the USA. Since they are paying teaching hours are when it is most convenient for the parents and children.
How much money is it possible to make?
The pay is complicated to explain because you start with a baseline and can earn difference incentives each month to supplement. My pay per class is about 8 dollars. Some start at 9.
There is an incentive if you teach 45 classes a month that is another dollar per class. They have incentives for opening booking slots during peak times as well.
There are also incentives for getting new teachers to sign up! I would love to help you with the process- be your mentor. See below for my links!

Also here are some sweet screen shots that show my pay and booking screen as well as my mentors pay and screen shots at a year in (She worked crazy over night hours to achieve these numbers.
I like sleep and prefer not to work all night long which is one of the reasons mine are smaller). All and all I would call this pocket money or part time income and not a full wage replacement.
You may be able to replace full wages if you work all night and sleep all day- only possible without kids in my opinion.
What’s your favourite thing about it?
My favourite thing about working for VIP Kid is the ability to work right at home and give my kiddos the attention they need as much as possible! I really do like the children I have been teaching as well. Most of them are the sweetest, smartest, heart filled and driven kiddos I have ever met!
Another plus is the ability to grow and add on more work as I get more comfortable with everything. Since there is no minimum I can open as few slots as I need.
What’s been the biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge for me was the waiting. Waiting to get classes booked. When I first signed my contract, things are very slow. I can be hard to get noticed right away (I recommend once signing making sure your personal profile is a strong one). The company does not place kids with you. The parents choose to book classes with you. I signed during China’s biggest holiday- Chinese New Year. It was a slow time to start.
The other challenge I find is some slight anxiety over missing class times. Especially since I find myself awake later and earlier teaching. Adjusting to a new sleeping schedule has been a challenge I am still dealing with.
Is there any advice you’d give to someone wanting to try it?
My advice to anyone wanting to try out VIP Kid. DO IT! If you have the time there is nothing to lose really. Except a little sleep. Start as soon as you can since it can take some time for bookings to find you. I am ready to help anyone interested through the process and have linked below my website with lots more detail.
I will be available for personal mentoring throughout the hiring process and even the first few classes. There is a lot more information out there on what to expect if you join. Please check out my blog below and comment or email me with any questions.
